Heaps of laundry and a dire lack of time, not to mention an aversion to thankless tasks: for many, ironing is nothing more than an arduous domestic chore. So why not rely on a rotary ironer to speed the job up. Miele's current models are more versatile than one might assume and certainly have little in common with grandmother's old-fashioned mangle.
The big advantage of a rotary ironer is its capacity to save time: Compared with ironing by hand, table and bed linen can be ironed in approximately half the time. And now add versatility, as the ironer's repertoire includes not only flatwork but also T-shirts, workwear, jeans, sportswear, children's garments and even shirts and blouses. Ease of use and convenience is greatest when faced with large quantities of laundry as work can be done while seated and less physical effort is required. Tired legs and backache are things of the past.
Handling is simple. Temperatures and roller speed are adjusted to suit the items to be ironed and one's own working speed. The 83 cm roller accommodating large items is operated using the footswitch. This leaves both hands free to feed in laundry. Skirts and shirts can be slipped over the free roller end for better access and convenience. Finished items glide off the roller and fold into gentle pleats on the outfeed table below. Alternatively, items can be hung over the integrated airing bar to complete drying.
Safety is always high on the design agenda at Miele. One particular Miele feature is the automatic finger guard. A spring-loaded bar reacts immediately to contact, automatically switching the motor off and retracting the heater plate. This helps prevent injuries caused by a momentary lapse of attention. After use, the appliance can be folded together for space-saving storage and wheeled into a cupboard. Two models are available, one with an additional steam function. Steam is ideal for remoisturising laundry that is normally too dry to iron.
Alongside their practical features, these machines also excel in terms of design. Large, easily surveyed controls provide the user with all the necessary information at a glance. Rounded corners and edges result in a harmonious overall impression. The ironing cloth covering the roller is available in 'Sunshine', a bright shade of yellow, or in the undulating 'Waves' pattern. These contemporary designs and patterns reflect modern trends and are true eye-catchers.
And the Miele logo represents a quality promise: Rotary ironers must prove their worth in an endurance test lasting 2500 hours. Based on average useage of 2.5 hours per week, this corresponds to a life cycle of 20 years.
